Experimental preparation laboratory / user facilities

MLF provides laboratories for sample fabrication, preparation, characterization, processing, etc., for proposal selectees, J-PARC members, etc., to use. They are located in both MLF and IQBRC, so please feel free to use them as required.

An application is required for experimental preparation-laboratory use

Please submit an experimental equipment carry-in / use form while referencing the Post-selection / pre-arrival procedure when bringing in electrical equipment for sample preparation.

MLF experimental preparationlaboratory (controlled area)

There are three experimental preparation laboratories directly adjacent to the experiment hall at MLF, and experimental samples can be handled for pre-measurement preparation, post-measurement treatment, etc., in these facilities. For access, please get in contact with the technician prior to arrival.

Experimental preparation laboratory 1
Laboratory facing the corridor on the way to the second experimental hall. It has the most experimental equipment.
Experimental preparation laboratory 3
Laboratory facing the corridor on the way to the second experimental hall. This laboratory is for handling neutron-exposed samples or those that include deuterium, and access is limited.
Sample preparation cabin
Preparation room within the second experimental hall that allows for simple preparation work. It is useful due to its proximity to the beamlines.
As a general rule, please be aware of the following limitations, depending on the work and sample to be handled.
  Bulk solids Powder samples Liquids
Experimental preparation laboratory 1
Experimental preparation laboratory 3
Sample preparation cabin
  • : Can be used for both pre-exposed and post-exposed samples.
  • : Can be used only for pre-exposed samples.
  • : Can be used only for pre-exposed samples with no deuterium included.
  • : Use prohibited

J-PARC research building

SE control room high-pressure experimental preparation area

SE control room high-pressure experimental preparation area

This area is used for developing high-pressure techniques and machining ceramics required for it. The area consists of a workspace for the development and a machine shop. The former is utilized for preparation of high-pressure experiments or the offline test of pressure generation. The latter is utilized for machining ceramics used in the high-pressure experiments at J-PARC. In order to use this area, it is necessary to submit an application form and to take safety education in advance. For inquiries concerning submission of application forms and taking safety education etc., please contact a high-pressure experiment preparation area manager.

IQBRC experimental preparation laboratory

The following experimental preparation laboratories are available for users at IQBRC, which is near to the dormitories.

Experimental preparation laboratories can be used for the sample fabrication, preparation, characterization, processing, etc., required for experiments. Submission of an experimental preparation-laboratory user application form prior to arrival(Users wishing to make use of the laboratories are required to submit an application form and get permission at least two weeks before the first day of use.), and attendance at a safety education lecture lasting approximately 30 minutes prior to use, are required. Please contact the CROSS user experimental preparation office for questions or concerns regarding these requirements.

Please refer to the IQBRC user experimental preparation laboratory for details.

User facilities

User data analysis room (IQBRC B404B)

The User Data Analysis Room (UDAR) is fitted out with fully networked computers and software to enable users to visualize and analyze their data while working at the MLF.

Users may also connect their own computers to the internet using eduroam credentials.

Persons wishing to make use of the UDAR should contact the J-PARC Center Users Office <j-uomlj-parc.jp>.

User lounge (IQBRC B404A)

Located next door to the User Data Analysis Room, the User Lounge provides a comfortable and welcoming environment where users can relax and enjoy a coffee (Espresso machine available!) or other drink of choice during their time at J-PARC.

The lounge is also equipped with data projector for meetings and presentations.

Persons wishing to make use of the UDAR or connect to the network from there should contact the J-PARC Center Users Office <j-uomlj-parc.jp>.
